Technical Specialist (Cable)

Responsibilities:
- When required, carry out jointing and x-ray operations to the required specifications.
- Make qualification joints for inspection/assessment.
- Carry out maintenance and repairs on communications systems, instrumentation systems, test equipment and (if required) jointing and x-ray equipment.
- Take watchkeeping duties under cable work conditions when required.
- Carry out routine inspection/testing of stock cable and plant.
- Assist Chief/Senior Cable Engineer with compilation of data, records and returns.
- Maintain all Cable Gear and Instrumentation.
- Work as a Jointing Team (if required).
- Perform stock cable D.C. testing/Spare Repeater Testing.
- Perform transmission testing for plants/cable during operation.
- Storekeeping of all Cable Working Consumable items and monthly returns.
- Service and maintenance of all personal computers, printers and Xerox photocopying machine onboard ship.
- Update and maintain all Quality Records, Controlled Documents and correspondence.
- Handle daily incoming/outgoing mail, fax messages and telexes.
- Assist Chief/Senior Cable Engineer to assess cable joints to the relevant specification.
- Take special project as assigned by Chief/Senior Cable Engineer and/or Senior Manager, Cable Engineering.
- Calibrate test equipment by the Transfer Calibration Standard Equipment.
- Special assignment by Chief Cable Engineer/CTS and Head, Cable Engineering.
Requirements:
- Possess Diploma in Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering
- Possess good initiative and a Team player
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Willing to work onboard vessel and sail for months away from home
